Portskewett Heritage Centre,
St Mary’s Church, Sudbrook Road, Portskewett NP26 5TJ

The Centre shows the developments in Portskewett, Sudbrook and the surrounding areas from the Early Settlers in the Neolithic period, to the Roman occupation, the Legend’s of Harold’s House, the Norman Invasion, Religion in mediaeval times, the Georgian era, the coming of the railways and developments with modern industry and housing.

In addition to wall displays and local artefacts there are two Audio/Visual Display units featuring stories of characters from different eras. The information is suitable for children and adults from the local area and for visitors. Opportunities are available to further research the history, geology and archaeology of the area.

Projects are being developed with pupils from Archbishop Rowan Williams Primary School in Portskewett, with students at Caldicot School and with local history groups.

The Centre has toilet and kitchen facilities for visitors and will be open regularly during the year (see details in the Information Section).

The Heritage Centre was due to open in March 2020 but the opening ceremony has been postponed as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Good news........

The Centre has a Management Committee with representatives from St Mary’s Church, Portskewett Community Council, Caldicot History Society and Archbishop Rowan Williams School.
